Encounter the Scriptures
God's special message to us in the Bible is more than just a collection of nice teachings about living a good life; it is a life-changing document. God's Word is the means by which the Spirit of God actively changes our lives for the better. It is how he makes us into the sort of people he wants us to be, the sort of people who are completely satisfied by him and him alone.
We encounter God through his Word on Sunday morning. We encounter him when we read the Bible in the privacy of our homes. And we encounter him in community groups where we are able to share with others and let them share with us how the Lord is speaking through his Word. Neglecting this communal part of our encounter with God would be akin to trying to learn how to drive without talking to anyone who has actually driven a car before, without driving with them, learning their technique, or sharing in their experience.
