Pulpit Nomination Committee Recommendation
- Mar 12, 2009
- Series: Leadership Development
As many are aware, this is an exciting time in the story of CTK. Until now, CTK has existed as a "mission church" in the eyes of our denominational governing body. With the upcoming election of elders, we hope to transition into the status of "particular church." That is, CTK will no longer be governed by a temporary form of government. If elders are elected at the congregational meeting on March 29, 2009, the newly-elected elders, along with the senior minister, will make up the CTK's permanent governing body (also called a session).
Another implication of this transition to particular status is that the church must officially "call," or invite, a man to assume the role of Senior Minister. The person filling the pastoral role at "mission church" bears the special title of "evangelist." Elliot Grudem has served CTK until now as its evangelist. Several weeks ago, however, a committee, called the Pulpit Nominating Committee and consisting of seven members of CTK, was elected to discuss and propose a candidate to the congregation for the role of Senior Pastor.
After several weeks of prayerful discussion, the committee has agreed to recommend Elliot Grudem as our pastor to be voted upon by the CTK members. After researching and discussing the responsibilities of the pulpit nomination process, the committee met with Elliot to confirm he was the right man to pastor our church.
The committee makes this recommendation with great confidence, soberness, and prayer. At the March 29 congregational meeting, CTK's members will vote on the committee's recommendation.
In the weeks prior to March 29, any church members who have questions for Elliot regarding his election as pastor should contact him directly.
